DFI Day 7 - Media

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

Today we focused on Connecting - the importance for teachers, learners and the community to connect authentically and purposefully. Live Streaming is a way for schools to do this. It enables schools to share children's experiences, learning and children can upload to their blogs to share with others.

Dorothy enforced the obviously connecting face to face is most important but where this is not possible or as another vehicle to share and connect then digital technology allows for this. As a working mother, digital technology has allowed me to participate and share more in my children's school experiences which I'm grateful for.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

  • I enjoyed time to further explore Google Drawing, create playlists on Youtube, and Google Slides
  • Further develop my Google site
  • Understanding of how these Google Apps turbo boost children's learning

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
I created my first buttons for each of my Reading Groups on the google site, created links from the buttons for the first time, and learned how to create links from Google Slides to others so children can create a PICK a PATH story. Used download as a Png, to create the buttons.

Day 6 - Enabling Access - Sites

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

Today was all about making teaching and learning visible. Dorothy commented on how learning and success was had been based on a child's ability to read a teacher's mind. We made progress using L.I and WALT with children but now Manaiakalani makes all learning and teaching visible. A classroom GOOGLE SITE ALLOWS FOR THIS!
Planning, Process, Outcomes and Assessment all VISIBLE.
This turbo charges the classroom.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
To start operating a Google Site. With ten chrome books in my class I will share the Blog section of my site to begin with, children can complete the Blog learning activity in each section. I intend on setting up -  modelling/scaffolding each section following the prelearning. Watch this SPACE :)

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
Set up a GOOGLE SITE, yay! My focus is on establishing BLOGGER successfully. My children are ready to go :) I have learned out to drop downs, create sections, insert, buttons, post links etc. I am creating a different weekly focus section for each step.

What is a Blog?
What will we share on our Blog?
Let's Look at different Blogs!
How to write a Blog Profile as our first Blog Post.

DFI - Devices - Day 5

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

Today we focused on Cyber Smart, empowering Learners to be at home in the digital world and showing yourself in the best light. I wondered about the need for a Cyber Smart Progession teaching programme at our school. Blogger is one of the ways we can teach children to think about their digital footprint and develop smart relationships.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

I was able to pick up many tips to use today!
  • Hapara Dashboard - use of Workspace, link to Blogger and their comments, keeping the Current Screen Tab up on the classroom TV
  • I looked into Workspace, created an activity to share and it was interesting to note that Workspace is more visible than Google Classroom which is how I share with the children in my class now.
  • Use of folders in the drive; need to teach the students to go into the curriculum drive, then create the doc, slide etc. I will teach how to move docs, delete and organise on Friday this week.
  • I'm interested in the Student Dashboard app which may be introducted soon.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
  • Screen Castify - This was my first time using. I have created a 'Maths' based video, saved on the drive and have shared with a group using Workspace. Will implement tomorrow at school. Here's hoping!

Computational Thinking: Agenda Day 4 Christchurch Cohort 2, 2019

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

Tohatoha - Share was our focus today! Dorothy spoke about sharing our achievements and fails and we can share in different ways. It's important as Educators to work with our Learners to establish an authentic audience for their learning outcomes, share - and beyond, to someone who is choosing to listen to you.

We learned that Connected Learners share. Blogger has been chosen as an effective way to do this. It allows students to learn how to be a positive digital citizen by placing Positive, thoughtful and helpful feedback to others.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

The importance of SHARE with a purpose. Setting up Blogger for my class will be the next step.

We were introduced to the Digital Technology Curriculum, how critical it is in every aspect of life in the future. Kawana, an inspiring and enthusiastic presenter from OMGTech opened my eyes to different forms of this curriculum in action.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

The role computational thinking, computer science and electronics can play in the Learn, Create and Share process. I was able to try Scratch, a coding programme which was an excellent example of the process; Learn, Create and Share.

DFI - Day One

Core Business: Agenda Day 1, Cohort 2, Christchurch 2019

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
I gained an understanding of how Manaiakalani came to be by participating in a Google Hangout with Dorothy Burt. It has two parts - pedagogy and digital fluency. They can exist separately, a classroom without 1:1 devices can implement the pedagogy to affect teaching and learning. Digital Fluency will increase learning engagement and outcomes for all children. Learn, Create and Share provides teachers and learners with a structure to engage actively and authentically with learning using digital tools.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
Skills learned today - Explore tool, few shortcuts, reinforced 'voice to type - read/write', Blog Set up - first Blog Post, Working with tables, operating with many tabs

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
Explore tool, short cuts, need to create LEARN, CREATE, SHARE signage in my classroom.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
Have set up a personal chrome browser, separate from my professional browser.
